Most other supplements marketed to athletes have minimal or no convincing scientific support at recommended doses. BCAAs (branched-chain amino acids) produce no additional muscle growth benefit when protein intake is already adequate — their primary amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, valine) are present in high concentrations in whole food protein sources and complete protein supplements. Pre-workout stimulant blends often contain underdosed active ingredients alongside large amounts of caffeine that drive the perceived effect. Testosterone boosters have consistently failed to demonstrate meaningful effects on testosterone levels or body composition in clinical trials. Fat burners rely largely on high caffeine doses combined with unproven herbal ingredients. Glutamine supplementation does not improve performance or recovery in individuals consuming adequate protein. Investing in whole food quality, sleep, and training program design will invariably produce better returns than most supplement expenditures.
